Season 1974/75 is now complete

It wasn’t the best season that The Tigers have ever had, they finished 20th out of 22 in the Cheshire County League, just three points off the bottom. The league champions were Leek Town.

Appearances wise, top of the list was Jeff Johnson with an incredible 61 games, closely followed by goalkeeper (and often Centre Half) Jimmy Lomas on 60. Johnson scored 24 goals during the season but only came second, Pete O’Brien pipping him with 25 goals.

In The FA Cup, Hyde beat New Mills in the 1st Qualifying Round but were beaten 3-0 at Runcorn in the next round.

The FA Trophy saw a decent run with Horwich RMI, Harrogate Town (replay) and Droylsden all falling to The Tigers before a strong Mossley side beat us 4-1 in the 3rd Qualifying Round.

Locally, a good showing in the Reporter Cup was bettered by triumph in the Manchester Senior Cup. Hyde beat Dukinfield Town and Mossley before facing Oldham Athletic Reserves in the Final. It ended goalless but Hyde went on to win 3-1 on penalties, to my knowledge that is the first penalty shootout that Hyde took part in.
