It’s been a while..

My apologies for the lack of updates recently. As I don’t get to many games nowadays, I rely on information from the website to update statistics and unfortunately that particular avenue hasn’t been productive recently.

So, I’m after some help. If anyone has a copy of the programme from Monday night, could you scan a copy of the appearances/line ups page to me @prestwichtiger on twitter?

I would be most eternally grateful.

Hat Trick Hereos

Scott Spencer’s third hat trick of the season last Saturday, prompted a quick look through the records to see which other players had achieved this feat. I mistakenly tweeted that this was the first time a player had scored a hat trick of hat tricks in a season since Simon Yeo in 2000/01. In fact, the last player to do this was none other than Scott Spencer himself, back in 2011/12!

Of the current squad, only two other players have scored three in a game, Ayrton Bevins in the 4-1 win at Ramsbottom earlier in the season and Reece Gray against Chadderton in last season’s 8-0 win.

Going back through the database, the full list of players who have bagged three hat tricks in a single season are…

Scott Spencer – 2015/16
Scott Spencer – 2011/12
Simon Yeo – 2000/01
Simon Yeo – 1999/2000
Simon Yeo – 1998/99
Malcolm O’Connor – 1987/88
Malcolm O’Connor – 1986/87
John Timmons – 1984/85

Saturday’s hat trick v Ramsbottom was Scott Spencer’s sixth for the club, currently Simon Yeo leads the way with nine.

*The database is currently complete to 1977/78 only, Earlier goalscoring feats are more than possible!

A few Thank You’s and updates

A little while ago, I finished uploading the data for the 1978/79 season and unfortunately a journalist’s strike meant we were missing some results for this season. Just want to say Thank You to Andy McAnulty and Tony Spencer who combined to put me in touch with John Ellis who has been compiling all known Cheshire County League results. Needless to say, John came up with the goods and I am now pleased to say we have all league results from that season. Just a few line ups with gaps now but that is always going to happen as we go back.

Also, huge thanks to Mike Pavasovic for writing the Hyde United Miscellany, which has allowed me to finish off all the team line ups for the 1988/89 season. From March 1989 there were no complete team line ups as I had lost a couple of pages from the data I was working with. This has led to a few amendments to players records from that time, including Mike Lutkevitch moving to 110 goals, Keith Hicks moving to 104 games, Carl Hodgert to 209 games and changes to all other players from that time such as Paul Kirkham, Gary Walker and John Bishop. Thanks also to Phil Chadwick for hand delivering the book straight to my door, top class service from our club shop!

Matlock Town (H) 29th August 2015

Hyde United v Matlock Town
Saturday 29th August 2015 15:00hrs
Evostik League, Premier Division
Venue: Ewen Fields

MTFC Badge

Contender ready? Gladiator ready? 3…2…1…

glad

It’s time to welcome The Gladiators of Matlock Town to Ewen Fields for our next Evostik League match of the season. Whilst Wolf, Hunter and Jet may not be travelling over from Causeway Lane, Mark Hume’s squad will provide a stern test for The Tigers.
Midweek fixtures saw Hyde falter at home to Marine, losing 2-0 to a solid but unadventurous visiting team and continuing an indifferent start to the season. Matlock however won 3-2 away at previously unbeaten Rushall Olympic and currently sit sixth in the league table with Hyde in fourteenth.

Prior to Tuesday’s game, the five goals Matlock had scored this season had arrived in the final ten minutes of matches and they have now won three and lost one of their four games. They defeated Frickley Athletic, Whitby Town and Rushall Olympic and were defeated by Salford City where former Tigers Gareth Seddon and Chris Lynch both scored for The Ammies.

Gary Lowe’s Hyde team will be looking to restore pride after a poor performance against Marine and will be hoping for another good crowd after encouraging attendances in their first two home games.

    Current Form

Hyde United: LWLD
Matlock Town: WWLW

    Previous Meetings

So far, there have been 37 meetings between the two sides, the last of which was in 2011 as Adam Griffin scored a last minute free kick at Causeway Lane to seal a 1-0 win for Hyde. Prior to that, the sides met in the NPL Shield in 2005 with Hyde coming out 2-0 winners with goals from Steve Brackenridge and Dale Johnson. Matlock’s last league win over Hyde came in 1991 at Causeway Lane where despite Hyde leading for an hour through Mike Stephens, a Glenister penalty levelled things up before Haycock won it with five minutes left. The first meeting between the sides I can find was in 1982, an FA Trophy clash at Matlock where despite two Peter Coyne goals, The Galdiators won 5-2. Appearance wise, Terry Megram made 12 against Matlock with Steve Johnson and Russ Hooton both with 10. Phil Chadwick (not from the club shop) and Ged Kimmins both netted six times against our opponents to lead that particular chart.

Manager Page added to site

smcniven

After a long time thinking about it, I have finally got round to adding a manager’s page to the website.

It is, like many things, still a work in progress, but will include a brief overview of their time in charge along with a statistical analysis and any honours that were won under their stewardship.

The list includes permanent managers only and at the moment goes back as far as Les Sutton.

Please use the link below to have a look and let me know what you think, any feedback on other aspects that you would like to see is always gladly received.

Latest News & Features Section

I’m hoping to add in a new section to the site, Latest News & Features.

In here I will be able to keep you updated of any interesting facts, statistics I come across and any changes to the database that will be occuring.

As yet I am struggling to create a suitable index system for this part of the site which will be controlled via WordPress.

It is, like a lot of things on the site, a work in progress. Please keep checking back and with a bit of luck it should be working soon.
