The goal came after a sustained spell of Hyde pressure in which Anthony Wright struck the post from an acute angle. Other chances came and went and extra -time was looming when Steven Clegg threw the ball back to John Baker. He lost his footing attempting to clear and Neil Hardy had the simple task of side-footing into an empty net. It was cruel luck on the Tigers who had given so much to the game. Neil Tolson and Craig Buckley were unavailable, so John Gaynor and Tony Ellis were recalled to an otherwise unchanged team. The Tigers were on top for much of the first half with an impressive display. It was only their finishing in front of goal which let them down. The second half carried on in the same vein. Hyde playing some exhillerating football, but not finding the killer touch when it mattered and were made to pay dear as Altrincham snatched an unlikely winner. The whole match was videoed and will make pleasant watching. Well at least to the 82nd minute, when it changes to a horror show, not to be showed before the watershed. |
