Match Details: Tuesday 20th August 2019 Northern Premier League Premier Division
Attendance: 1809 FC United of Manchester: Wharton Carney Joyce Jones Dean Potts Ennis Griffiths Rodney Lenehan Linney Subs: Doyle Morris Sharp Hellawell Walker A superb battling backs against the wall performance earnt the tigers their first points, and win, of the season under the lights at Broadhurst park, running out 2-1 winners. The hosts started the game looking to be on the front foot, with the full backs bombing forward often, and switching the play regularly but Hyde kept a good shape keeping them at bay. Hyde got their first goal when Tom Pratt nipped the ball away from the FC Utd defence, crossing the ball which was parried into the path of Dan O’Brien who fired into the bottom corner. There was a chance to make it 2 from the penalty spot after Logan was judged to have been fouled in the area but O’Brien saw his spot kick and follow up excellently saved by Wharton. However it wasn’t long before Hyde got their second, after winning the ball back from a throw in, Liam Tongue glanced through in the area and slotted the ball past Wharton, to the delight of the travelling tigers support. FC Utd replied in the second half after Linney ran in from the left unleashing a shot that took a deflection off Sharp, wrong-footing Mewitt and rolling into the corner of the net. But that was the only goal for the home side in the half, despite chances being in double figures. Hyde’s defending was exceptional throughout, keeper Mewitt and Tongue gaining notable mentions for their efforts in keeping FC Utd away. A performance that will surely be remembered for years to come. By George Rothwell O'Brien had penalty saved - 30 minutes |
