A disappointing exit from the FA Cup seemed to be erased as Hyde were looking lively from the start, regularly picking the ball up in the Nantwich half and having attempts on goal; Pratt, Dyche and Lane testing on numerous occasions. The visitors grew into the half as it progressed, keeping the ball well and perhaps being unfortunate to not go ahead, as Schousboe fired a shot straight at Mewitt and Cooke saw his free kick curl agonisingly wide of goal. But, on the stroke of half time Hyde took the lead as Thompson headed home a corner with the ball bouncing off the line and into the roof of the net. In the second half, the tigers picked up where they left off and had an array of chances to double the score line but Pratt, Logan and Dyche all saw their chances go begging. Dyche finally managed to get Hyde’s second, pouncing on a ball that was headed away from a corner and lashing the ball past a flurry of bodies into the net from just outside the area. Nantwich did have their opportunities towards the end but, as was the pattern of the majority of the game, their finishing let them down compared to the tigers who took their opportunities to become league leaders.
